Winter Break FOTD

Today was my first easy day in a long long time. I went to the bank to deposit some money, picked up some blank CDs at Target, and now I'm sitting on my floor in my room writing this post.

Sunday Self: Holiday Party

Yesterday my roommates and I had a small holiday party to commemorate not only the holidays, but the semester ending. It was a lot of fun to dress up, eat food, play games, and take goofy photos.

We arranged for everyone to bring food (potluck style) so we didn't have to pay for everything and we got a variety of food to eat. Everyone was STUFFED!

I had worked an 8 hour day before this, so it was relaxing to put on some makeup and a fun lacy dress. I used ELF's Lip Stain in Red Carpet for bright red lips and NYX's Loose Pearl Eye Shadow in Nude to brighten up my inner corners.

It is sad to see many of my friends leave for the holidays but I'm so happy we all could come together before we separated. I won't see them for at least 3 weeks (a long time for us!).

What are your plans for the holidays?

NYX Round Lipstick in Snow White

This is one of the lipsticks featured in the haul I posted a couple weeks back. Since then, I have been trying out all the lipsticks when I can. Unfortunately, I work two jobs where I have to wear neutral makeup. This means I can only wear them to class and on my weekends. I've found that Snow White is one of the easier lipsticks to wear. It's a classic dark red which will look nice on many skin tones.

My Favorite Green Smoothie

This week I wanted to share the smoothie I have been making almost daily this whole month.

Cherry Culture Haul

Last week NYX was on sale at Cherry Culture so I decided to use a Visa gift card I was given a year ago and buy some things I've been wanting to try!

Lumene Waterproof Makeup Remover Review

I purchased this Lumene product for $5.99 at Ulta. I bought it on a whim, as I had just finished my Simple makeup remover and I needed a new one.

Inexpensive Last Minute Halloween Costume

This year I wanted to be Twiggy, the model. However, finding a suitable A-line dress, shoes, and hairstyle was too time consuming. Then I choose Alice from Alice in Wonderland. This also proved a challenge. Now while I'm still on the hunt for the perfect collared blue dress, I decided to try for something easier...

Late September Empties

ELF Blush in Tickled Pink: This is the last you will hear about this on my blog, I promise! I am finally finished with it and can throw it away!
NYX Eye Pencils: These bled a lot and weren't easy to apply. I figured it wasn't worth trying to use them up.
ELF Under Eye Concealer & Highlighter: The highlighter was too sparkly and the concealer didn't do enough for my eyes to warrant a place in my drawers.
Garnier BB Cream: I tried. And tried again to use this up. I just couldn't do it. I felt like I looked worse after I applied it.
Tarte Primer Sample: I tried this in conjunction with my Tarte foundation (which I have yet to write a review on!) and I enjoyed it. I just wish I remembered which one it was!

Small Haul

I've ordered from twice now and this time is definitely better than the last. They didn't send me two items I ordered last time and instead of offering to send them to me, they just refunded me. (Although I was very happy with how quick and easily I got the refund). This time I received every item and it didn't take long to ship either.

Job Interview Tips (Makeup & Other)

The previous job (I had for under a week) was finished because of mutual dissatisfaction (I didn't like them, they didn't want me) so I've been on a small hunt ever since. I've been applying for jobs at my college because of the convenience and flexibility factors. Today I went to an interview in which I had to walk across campus to get to.

FOTD: Birthday Celebrations

So sorry you haven't seen a post from me in a while! I moved into my apartment fully and just started school today. I also got a job and have been decorating my room/ordering decor online to help finish. In other news, it was my mom and grandma's birthdays yesterday (August 25th) so we went out to lunch and out to dinner. I was stuffed with good food by the end of the day. This is the makeup I wore...

Summer Empties

1) Gud Shampoo: This lasted forever so I don't feel like it was too expensive for the price. However, it didn't clean my hair that well so I would recommend it to those who need more conditioning than cleaning.
2) L'Oreal Sulfate Free Conditioner: I have experienced better conditioners but this one worked well. I liked how it didn't contain sulfates and that this part of the L'Oreal line is cruelty free.

FOTD: Work Appropriate #2

Hey everyone! How about another FOTD? This one is from last week so I don't remember everything on my face but I will share what I do remember! Plus, my boss even commented on it- she said I looked really pretty that day and wondered if I had curled my hair or something. (I think it was because I used some more foundation under my eyes for concealer!)

July Favorites/Update

I've wanted to give you all an update on my life recently because I've had a bit of changes since last month. The most fun change is that I've started watching Doctor Who on Netflix! I never thought I could get into something with so many aliens and special effects but I love the Doctor! I'm on the fourth season now and even made a tumblr to obsess over it.

EOTDs Neutral & Color

On my two days off I played with my eye makeup and made it more dramatic. I love both of these looks but I honestly don't remember what I used in the neutral look!

Book Review: Through The Looking Glass

I mentioned in my June Favorites how I was feeling stressed about moving my grandma into a different home and having to sell her house. My uncle has been living there for many years and he, like me, is an avid reader. He had BOXES and BOXES of books sitting in the garage. This is one I found that made me really excited! Alice in Wonderland is my favorite movie (both of them) and Through The Looking Glass was something I was wanting to read for a while- I read the book Alice in Wonderland about a year ago.

FOTD: Work Appropriate

So I said I would switch up my blog from so many book reviews to a little more beauty again. As you might have noticed, I go through spurts of certain things- beauty, books, fashion. And I tend to post a lot of beauty reviews, book reviews, hauls, but with some other posts in between. It's been hard to post something different than book reviews because that's all I have been doing recently. It's hard to review products when I tend to wear the same things every day and when a lot of my unreviewed items are a bit inappropriate for work.

Book Review: Red Riding Hood

The past week's posts have been mainly book reviews and that's mainly because my work doesn't allow bright makeup, I have to wear a uniform, but my job has been very boring that all I do is read most of the night. I will be doing FOTDs of my work appropriate makeup but they won't be very exciting as I'm still trying to use up products.

Anyway, I've been reading a lot so I've been getting through books extremely quickly and therefore posting reviews left and right. There will be at least 2 more after this review until it stops for a while. They're putting me in a different position which will be good for my boredom but I won't have much to post until my days off!

Read on for the review...

Book Review: Thirteen Reasons Why

Summary: Clay Jensen doesn't want anything to do with the tapes Hannah Baker made. Hannah is dead. Her secrets should be buried with her. Then Hannah's voice tells Clay that his name is on her tapes- and that he is, in some way, responsible for her death. All through the night, Clay keeps listening. He follows Hannah's recorded words throughout his small town. . . and what he discovers changes his life forever.

I always forget to take a picture of all my empties as a sort of 'intro' photo! Anyway, I have a lot of empties this month so get ready for a picture spam...

Review: ELF Under Eye Concealer & Highlighter

This is something I'm also project panning so I wanted to review it before I used it all up. I am only going to review the concealer side because I don't like the highlighter side- I have oily skin so it just makes my skin look shinier.

Book Review: A Tree Grows In Brooklyn

Well it's been just over a month since my last book review! My high school's library was getting rid of some older books and I was able to get this one. Of course, this was a couple years ago and classic me, I just this year picked it up to read. The book was in a slightly worse than normal condition and some of the first pages were falling out.

Review: Lorac Behind the Scenes Primer

Do you sense a pattern here? You might be able to tell that I'm currently on a review kick on the items I'm project panning. I've already reviewed ELF's Tickled Pink blush but there are many more I haven't shared my thoughts on. This mini primer came with my Lorac Unzipped Palette I bought just over a year ago. I haven't used this primer every single day, regardless it has lasted months!!

A New Combination

Please excuse the state of my hands- I'm left handed so pens/pencils tend to rub off on my pinky finger. Anyway, this actually isn't a polish you can buy (although I'm sure you can find dupes for it!)

Review: Wet N Wild Brulee

I bought this shadow over a year ago. I then used it when I went to Costa Rica for a week. This shadow faded very quickly there as I was only using ELF's $1 primer and that couldn't battle Costa Rica's humidity and random rain. I didn't pick it up again until mid-May. Then I realized what I was missing...

June Favorites

June has been a whirlwind of stress, heat, and more stress. I've spent most weekends at my grandma's house, going through a whole bunch of stuff to figure out if we should keep it or throw it out. We had a garage sale and raised a bit of cash to help my grandma get the care she needs. She has stage 4 kidney disease, diabetes, and is now mourning the loss of her husband that she's been with for 70 years. It will, like many other things, get better. My friends and I are also trying to secure an apartment for this school year. The rent of the apartment we want is around $550, which is $50 more a month than I planned on. This is adding even more stress. I am already committed so it is out of the question to back out and live at home instead. Regardless, I am still excited. Now that this little update is over, let's move on with my favorites!

Review: Sue Devitt Color Luxury Lipstick

I got this lipstick from a coworker of my mom's. Her daughter is a rep for Sue Devitt and gave us both this lipstick in the color Samoa and a mini mascara. I was (and am) so grateful. I ended up really liking the mascara but the full size is just too much money for me! This lipstick also ended up being good quality as well-

Review: Zoya Remove + Polish Remover

I bought this last November for $10 at Ulta. I had high expectations and this product didn't disappoint.

Here are some empties that I have recently found stashed away!

Orly's Out of This World

This is Orly's Out of This World. I wanted to buy this polish because it was on sale and I didn't have any other Orly nail polishes. However, my friend who was with me at the time said she would buy it for me as part as my birthday gift! (Thank you Allison!)

Memorial Day Eyes

Sorry I have been so absent lately- my grandpa died a week ago on Friday and ever since I've been at my grandma's house grieving and going through his things. My grandpa served in the army in World War 2. He was in Italy and was wounded in service. To honor him and to help get out some of my emotion, I decided to go a little brighter with my makeup on Memorial Day. I know it's almost a week since then but I really liked my eye look and would still like to share. It's something I will probably be wearing on Fourth of July!

Review: NYX Concealer (in a jar)

I had heard a little about this concealer from NYX but I finally decided to try it out.

Book Review: Letters of a Portuguese Nun

My uncle actually gave me this book to read a couple months ago. He said it was an interesting controversy- a Portuguese nun in the 17th century had an affair with a French officer and wrote letters to him after he left her to go to war. Historians were divided on the accuracy of these letters. Regardless, I really enjoyed reading the five letters.

Update !

So recently I temporarily dyed my hair a shade of pink (although it turned out sort of red) and I am so stoked about it.

I first used Splat! hair dye, then used Manic Panic hair dye. I prefer the Manic Panic one because it doesn't stain as bad as the Splat! one and it shows up brighter in my dark hair. I am definitely looking forward to dying my hair different colors in the fall (after my summer job is over!)

I hope to start posting again soon- starting with a few hauls and some OOTDs!

A Few Current Favorites

There's something really satisfying about being on Spring Break. Sleeping in and lounging around my home has been quite enjoyable lately. I have a few favorites to share with you (some beauty related and some not) that I've been loving recently.

Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque Review

I've had this masque for over a year now and I think I've used it enough to write a review for it!

A Small Update

As some of you might have noticed, I've been absent from this blog for two weeks. I usually have posts lined up for weeks but two weeks ago, those posts ran out. I've been spending more time with friends and doing school work than I have been brainstorming blog posts.

I'm still quite in love with makeup and working on my blog but it's been pushed aside for making memories with good friends and eating good food. I will start posting again soon as I am on Spring Break this week.

Last Thursday was my and my best friend's 19th birthday. I got way too many gifts than I deserve but I would like to share a couple of them with you. None were makeup (thank the Lord, for I don't need anymore of that).

Review: NYX Slim Eye Pencil Review (Black & Dark Brown)

I've been a fan of NYX for a while now but I rarely post reviews of their products.

These slim eye pencils are definitely a cheap thrill as they are only $3.50 each! For $3.50, they aren't bad but they could definitely be better.

Review: Alba Botanica Natural Even Advanced Toner

I've been using this toner since late last year and I feel like I know enough now to finally write a review on it!

Quick Empties Post

I keep on forgetting to make an empties post and end up throwing out a lot of my empties! I have kept a couple of odd empties, however, so I thought I'd share them with you!

Book Review: Matched

I dislike sharing books I don't like but I decided that I had to write a review for this book. Here's a summary so you can get an idea about what I'm talking about:

"Cassia lives in a "perfect" world where everything is decided by the Society. There are no worries for tough decisions because the Society has already taken care of it. Even when she reaches the age to be matched, the many factorials are carefully sorted for optimal results. When a glitch in the seemingly perfect system appears, it leaves Cassia to wonder if the Society is really all that it claims the best there is to life."

Galaxy Nails

I decided to do this nail art on a whim. My roommate kept reminding me that I said I was going to attempt galaxy last semester but never got around to it. I'm so glad I finally did it though- I just wish I owned better quality nail polish. I used Sinful Colors Black on Black with a Sally Hansen purple, OPI blue, Sinful Colors Snow Me White, and a random sparkle nail polish.

Recent Purchases!

Let's get started as I have a lot to share with you all! The first thing I bought are these black combat boots from Sears! They were $40 (much cheaper than the Steve Madden alternative!).

OPI Ogre-The-Top Blue

I apologize for the medium quality iPhone photos of this manicure. I didn't have time to take better photos but I promise that next time I will take better photos! Anyway, this is the last OPI nail polish I own which ends my OPI series. I'm still trying to decide which brand I should showcase and swatch next!

Review: Wet N Wild Mega Liner

I'm not going to make this review very long. In short, I adore this liquid liner. I love the packaging, I love the price ($2.99?! Yes please!), and I love how long lasting it is. It isn't waterproof but Wet N Wild does make a waterproof version of this liner, if you're interested.

OPI Green-wich Village

Green has been my favorite color for around 3 years now. It used to be purple and black before that. This polish applied a bit streaky on the first coat but the second coat managed to even it all out.

OPI Didgeridoo Your Nails?

I want to say that I love this polish but I have recently realized that I don't love shimmery pinks on my nails anymore. Pink used to be my favorite color which is why my mom bought me this polish years ago but now I don't find myself reaching for it at all. It has a decent formula and, as always, I love the size of the brush, but I don't see myself using this polish again anytime soon. (Maybe I'll try it on my toes instead!)

Wednesday, January 16, 2013

OPI Sparrow Me the Drama!

Today I want to show you the next polish in my OPI collection- Sparrow Me the Drama! I bought this while it was on sale for $5 at Ulta. It's a purple based pink and I quite like it! I bought some nail tape off Amazon and wanted to use it so I added a bit of the gold tape to my ring fingers.

My purchases from The Body Shop finally came in today! I bought all skincare items as I am breaking out like crazy and wanted to see what the hype was all about!

NYX Caviar & Bubbles Palette Review

I bought this off of Amazon last summer and until recently, had used it sparingly. I think they changed the name of it from Champagne & Caviar to Caviar & Bubbles. I couldn't find this on the NYX website but you can find it on Amazon for $11!
